ISO 45001 is an international standard that sets out requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system. It provides a framework to help organizations to proactively improve their OH&S performance in order to prevent injury and ill health among employees and others in the workplace. The standard incorporates and implements the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach for managing occupational health and safety.
By using the standard organizations can demonstrate that they are implementing effective processes which will help to protect the health and safety of their staff. ISO 45001 forms part of a family of standards that includes ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management). The key benefits of using ISO 45001 are: ensuring legal compliance; reducing potential risks; improving employee safety; increasing operational efficiency; enhancing reputation; and improving employee morale.
To gain accreditation or certification, you will need to appoint a UKAS Registered Certification body, such as SGS UK Ltd or LRQA Lloyds Registrar or can elect to self certify using non UKAS certificarion.. These certification bodies will independently audit your management systems against the requirements and clauses of international standards. Once satisfied, you will receive certification.
NDC's' team of specialists understand the certification process and its requirements. We can work alongside you to prepare for certification and can support you to maintain compliance for re-certification.
